Chiefly papers of Philip Pendleton Barbour (1783-1841), including correspondence, account books, loose accounts, and legal papers relating to his law practice in Albemarle, Louisa, Madison, and Orange counties, Va., and to his farm, "Frascati," in Orange County; correspondence and accounts for construction of the house at Frascati and of a grain mill; bills of sale for slaves; and materials, 1812-1818, pertaining to the Virginia militia in Orange County (including commissions, correspondence, receipts, returns, and lists of officers). Also included are correspondence and accounts of his wife Frances Todd (Johnson) Barbour.

Philip Pendleton Barbour (May 25, 1783 – February 25, 1841) was the tenth Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He is the only individual to serve in both positions.
